About Us Guest Bedrooms How to Book How to Find Us Local Attractions
The Norfolk Broads are a unique system of waterways created by the flooding of trenches and pits formed by peat digging in the middle ages. The resulting lakes and the rivers that join them are now home to a wide variety of birds and wildlife. Boats can be hired by the hour at Wroxham or you can relax and enjoy a cruise on a 'Mississippi River Boat' from Horning. An early morning 'wildlife' trip in a silent, electric boat is an enchanting experience and the Museum of the Broads at Stalham is well worth a visit.
The Bure Valley Railway, powered by steam and diesel locomotives, operates on a narrow-gauge track between the old market town of Aylsham and the busy Broads resort of Wroxham with its excellent shopping facilities. The line operates during the summer months and at main holiday periods throughout the year. You can buy tickets and board the train at the Old Railway Station Coltishall; tickets can be linked to a boat trip on the river at Wroxham or Horning if required. A public footpath runs beside the railway.

There are many attractive riverside pubs, hotels and restaurants nearby where you can enjoy good food at very reasonable prices, or you may wish to explore the village pubs, Coltishall has five! Norwich is quite close and well worth a visit to see its historic market place, castle and cathedral areas. You will also find that it has excellent shops and a good choice of pubs, tea rooms, cafe-bars and themed restaurants. You might like to try Delia Smith's Brasserie on Carrow Road or perhaps drive North to the coast for fish and chips or sample some famous Cromer crab.

The National Trust's magnificent Blickling Hall where Anne Boelyn once stayed is near the market town of Alysham and well worth a visit. Other National Trust properties and many delightful gardens such as The Old Vicarage Garden at East Rushton, are also within easy reach.

Serious anglers will know that Norfolk offers a wide variety of opportunities to land record catches and with the coast only a few miles away there is also the possibility of sea fishing, so bring your rods and tackle.

The country roads and rural bye ways are great for cyclists and the safe, traffic free, path alongside the narrow gauge railway is ideal for families with younger children. Cycles can be hired from Huff and Puff Cycle Hire at Aylsham and Wroxham stations, we can arrange this for you but please ask when you book.
